Step 1: Safety first

If there’s an accident or breakdown, ensure everyone is safe and follow local emergency procedures.

Step 2: Contact the rental company

RentalCover’s guidance is to contact your rental company to report the incident and follow their instructions for roadside assistance, recovery/replacement, and any required reporting.

Step 3: Document everything

Keep records such as:

  • Photos (vehicle + scene)

  • Receipts

  • Rental company communications

  • Police report (if required/available)

RentalCover notes that claim submission typically requires documentation and that police reports or written statements may be requested depending on the situation/rental company requirements.

Step 4: Don’t arrange unauthorized repairs/towing

RentalCover warns against arranging your own recovery/repair without the rental company’s knowledge, as it may violate rental terms.

Step 5: Submit a claim after final charges are settled

RentalCover’s process generally starts after the rental period ends and damage charges are finalized, at which point you submit the online claim.
