Can I bring a pet or service animal in the rental vehicle?

Learn what to confirm before traveling with a pet or requesting a service-animal accommodation.

Do not assume a pet is permitted in every rental vehicle. Confirm the selected rental company and location’s rule before pickup.

For a service-animal or accessibility request, ask the rental company how it will arrange the rental under the law that applies at that location. Requirements and rights can vary by jurisdiction; this guide is not legal advice.

The rental company is called the supplier on some Airport Van Rental screens.

Each rental company and location can set its own pet rules. Use the selected offer’s Rental Policies before booking, the latest voucher before pickup, and the signed agreement after pickup. Accessibility rights and duties also depend on applicable law.

If you are traveling with a pet

Before booking or pickup, ask the rental company about:

  • Whether the animal is permitted

  • Any vehicle-category restriction

  • Carrier, restraint, cleanliness, or return-condition rules

  • Any charge or deposit disclosed under its policy

  • What must be recorded in the rental agreement

Get an unclear or important answer in writing. Review the selected offer’s Rental Policies, latest voucher, and signed agreement rather than relying on a general pet rule.

If you are requesting a service-animal accommodation

Contact the rental company or pickup location and explain the accommodation you need. Ask what process and information, if any, apply under local law.

Do not use an ordinary pet-policy summary as the answer to an accessibility request. Do not assume a fee, document, animal type, or access result is the same in every jurisdiction.

If a request is refused or disputed, ask for a manager and a written explanation. Keep the booking, voucher, agreement, names, dates, and messages. Seek guidance from the appropriate government authority or a qualified adviser for the location involved.

Airport Van Rental can help with the booking record and supplier contact details. It cannot decide a legal entitlement or override the rental company’s on-site process.

Protect the vehicle and document its condition

At pickup and return:

  1. Photograph the interior and exterior.

  2. Ask the rental company to record existing hair, odor, stains, or damage.

  3. Follow the signed agreement’s vehicle-use and return-condition rules.

  4. Keep the condition report, return receipt, final invoice, and messages.

Whether a cleaning or damage charge is valid depends on the agreement, evidence, and applicable law. Do not rely on a universal fee amount.

If the trip crosses a border

Vehicle permission and animal-entry permission are separate.

Get the rental company’s written approval before taking the vehicle across a border. Separately check current animal entry, health, identification, and return requirements with the official government authorities for every country or region involved.
