Return the vehicle with the fuel or battery level required by the rental company’s signed rental agreement. Check the level at pickup, keep proof of any refueling or charging, and correct any mismatch before you drive away.
Check the rules for your rental company: Fuel and charging rules vary. Before booking, open Rental Policies for the selected offer. After booking, check the latest voucher. After pickup, follow the signed rental agreement. Some Airport Van Rental screens call the rental company the supplier.
Check your policy before leaving pickup
The rental company may use one of several fuel policies:
Full to full: You receive the vehicle with a stated fuel level and return it at that level.
Same to same: You return the vehicle with the same level recorded at pickup.
Pre-purchase: You pay for a fuel option under the rental company’s terms.
Rental company refueling: The rental company refuels the vehicle after return and applies the price and service charge stated in the rental agreement.
For an electric vehicle, the agreement may set a required return charge, approved charging methods, and rules for cables, adapters, or charging cards.
If the dashboard level does not match the agreement, ask the rental company to correct the record before you leave.
At pickup
Photograph the dashboard showing the fuel or battery level and odometer.
Check that the recorded level matches the vehicle.
Confirm which equipment must be returned, including charging cables, adapters, or cards.
Ask the rental company to explain anything unclear in the agreement.
Before return
Check the required return level in the signed agreement.
Refuel or charge with enough time to reach the return location.
Keep the receipt showing the date, location, quantity or energy, and amount.
Photograph the final level and odometer at the return location.
Return all rental company equipment and keep the return receipt.
If you dispute a fuel or charging amount
Ask the rental company for an itemized final invoice, the pickup and return readings, and the calculation supporting the amount. Send the rental company your photos and receipt, keeping the original files for your records.
